Basic qualifications include: at least 21 years
of age; U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization; free of a felony record
including any violation of the domestic abuse statutes; of good character
(determined by a thorough background investigation); high school graduate or
have a General Education Development Certificate (GED); and possess a valid
driver's license.
In addition, candidate: fingerprints will be
submitted to state and national files to disclose any criminal record; must pass
a physical exam by a licensed physician and meet the physical requirements
prescribed by state law; will be examined by a licensed psychiatrist or
psychologist to determine competency; and must submit to and pass a drug screen.
All candidates will be interviewed by the Chief
of Police prior to offer of employment to determine motivation, appearance,
demeanor, attitude, and ability to communicate.
