City Council Meeting Update
Normal rules will be suspended for this month’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Monday, March 23 at 5:30 P.M. These changes will limit the Council, staff, and public risk for exposure to and transmission of COVID-19 and reflect recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the federal and state government to limit meetings to less than ten people. There will be a limited agenda that includes only items that need immediate consideration. Some old and new business will be tabled and moved to the next City Council meeting currently scheduled for April 27, 2020. Council members who are unable to attend in-person will be able to participate by electronic or telephonic means.
The meeting will be live-streamed and recorded, and the public is encouraged to view the meeting on the City of Van Buren’s Facebook page here rather than physically attending the meeting to reduce potential exposure and transmission of COVID-19. Public seating will be spaced at least six feet apart in accordance with CDC guidelines for social distancing. All attendees are asked to create at least six feet of space between themselves and other attendees as well as to sanitize hands prior to entering the Municipal Complex.
